Re: Wedding - free bar or pay bar?

My brother in laws mates took the piss with the free bar. One of them ended up fucking the bridesmaid (absolute sort) from behind in the toilet. And doing coke off her back. While his wife and her boyfriend were chatting in the hall.
Such a shame I was too young to enjoy that wedding.

If you're spending 30k, you may as well pay for the bar as well.
Some fucking moron mate of mine paid a grand for a harpist to play for an hour. Fair enough the bubbles rendition was good, but that money would have been better served behind the bar, especially as the cunt got divorced after a year anyway.

I don't like the idea of making guests pay but you have to put some form of a limit on it in some form to avoid going over budget.
For mine I got enough champers in amounting to half a bottle per person (didn't get finished in the end) and put an amount behind the bar equating to £20 a head. This was 9 years ago so it went a fair way.

The bride's father always pays. It's tradition.

Alternative is to put it on the Brides fathers tab.

That's easy, you tell the venue/staff to do single measures only. You'll still get the odd tit that will get a few and combine them into one glass of course, but most people will respect it

You have a choice, go or don't go. I would rather they spent the money on a decent honeymoon, and I paid for my own booze, personally.
And you also stated that an invite to an Irish wedding 11 years ago said PAY BAR...so it's obviously not a new thing!

I went to the wedding of a hippy couple that i used to live with at university last year. It was in a barn and it smelt of horse shit. The booze was free but it was from LIDL. The wedding cake was made of cheese.
It was really crap.

Free. Although I do understand why some make it wine and beer only. Some people do tend to take the piss with spirits.

Wine and champagne free
Beer and spirits pay
Didn't have any complaints at my wedding and most people were hammered.
